This reunion is for every Pasculli relative and every descendant of the Pasculli families of Molfetta, a seaside town just north of Bari in Puglia. That includes cousins, in-laws, kids, and anyone who calls themselves a Pasculli at heart, wherever life has taken them.
Many Molfetta families crossed the ocean to New Jersey. Historians say more of Hoboken's Italian immigrants came from Molfetta than from anywhere else. Whether your branch stayed in Puglia or settled in New Jersey or beyond, there's a place for you at the table.
The Pasculli Name
Pasculli comes from the given name Pasquale, from the Latin paschalis, "relating to Easter." It was probably first given to a child born around Easter.
The name is distinctly Apulian. It is found in Bari, Bitonto, Bisceglie, Andria, Molfetta, and Martina Franca.
Why September 8?
Molfetta's patroness, the Madonna dei Martiri, protects the town's sailors and fishermen. Since 1846, on September 8 the statue has been carried down to the harbor and taken out to sea on decorated fishing boats. This is the Sagra a Mare, followed by a procession to the Cathedral and fireworks. Emigrants come back from all over the world for it. In New Jersey, the Society Madonna dei Martiri has carried the same tradition in Hoboken since 1927.
The feast usually runs Sept 7–9. In 2028, Sept 8 falls on a Friday (tentative until the Comitato Feste Patronali publishes its program).
